The concept for Transparent Woman came from exploring the problems that women face in today’s society whilst also visually and stylistically creating a link to the era of housewives. By using that reference I was trying to create a link between women’s role in society now and then and how we are still facing similar challenges.
The editorial comments on the pressures of being ‘That Girl’ or the ‘Girl Boss’ and having to continuously work on improving yourself, your mental health and body. This ability to constantly work on yourself, wake up early, exercise, mediate, eat healthy etc. is glorified to the point where women are expected to lead this ‘perfect’ self-fulfilling life and only have positive thoughts.
In my editorial photoshoot I wanted to create this persona (who is somewhat outdated) that is wearing this transparent mask as a representation of her ‘fake-self’ and conveys a feeling of being stuck int the environment where she is constantly told what to feel and how to look.
The styling of her clothing is ironically outdated and is indeed not as aesthetically pleasing and clean as would normally be portrayed in social media. It is kitch and a bit tacky. She is engaged in a number of different scenarios all of which are based at home, alone.
